Natural Geography
Zhuhai City, set up in 1979, is situated at the southern part of Guangdong Province, P.R. China. It is 140 km away from Guangzhou, stands on the western bank of the Pearl River estuary and is adjacent to South China Sea, borders Hong Kong and Shenzhen to the east by 36 nautical miles and Macao to the south by land. It lies between North Latitude 21¡¦¨£48'to 22¡¦¨£27' and East Longitude 113¡¦¨£03' to 114¡¦¨£19', The land area covers 1,653 km2 and sea area,6,000 km2, including 146 islands.
Zhuhai is famous for its hundred-plus islands and one of the first Special Economic Zones in China. Zhuhai has been empowered with the local legislation by the National People's Congress. It governs three administrative districts: Xiangzhou, Doumen and Jinwan and five economic functional zones; Zhuhai National New and High Technology Industrial Development Zone, Zhuhai Free Trade Zone, Wanshan Ocean Development and Exemplary Zone, Hengqin Economy & Technology Development Zone as well as Zhuhai Harbor Industry Zone. By 2002, the city's population totaled 1.23 million, of which, 0.79 million were permanent residents.

Economic Situation
For over 20 years, Zhuhai, as a special economic zone, has made great achievements in its economy and social sectors in the process of reform and opening to the outside world by building the socialist market system and vigorously promoting international exchanges and cooperation. Nowadays, Zhuhai has set up a comprehensive export-oriented economic structure, with the industry as the key link and commerce and trade, tourism, finance, real estate, information, logistics and fishery in co-ordinate development. By the end of 2002, Zhuhai had RMB 108.2 billion of the fixed assets investment, with the industrial gross output value of RMB 79.1 billion, GDP, RMB 41.1 billion and per capita RMB 33.3000, ranking among the top in the province, and even the whole country and reaching the average level of the middle-income countries.
Under the government guidance and strong support, five pillar industries have been rooted in Zhuhai; electronics and communications equipment manufacturing, electric machinery and its materials manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment manufacturing, petrochemical materials and products manufacturing as well as computer software. Meanwhile, modern agriculture and service industry are developing vigorously.
Transportation
Zhuhai Airport
Zhuhai Airport, launched on June 18,1995,is one of the largest, most advanced civil airports in China. The terminal building covers 93,000 sq m of floor area. It is designed to handle 100,000 takeoffs and landings annually. The annual passenger volume is 12 million trips. The freight volume is 400,000 tons per year. There are flights from Zhuhai Airport to more than 30 major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Wuhan.
Zhuhai Harbor
zhuhai Harbor has eight harbor areas, including Gaolan, Jiuzhou and Guishan. It is a key harbor on the South China coast. Currently, Zhuhai Harbor has 95 berths. The total length of docks is about 6,500 m, of which nine berths can be used to moor 10,000 dwt ships.The total annual volumes of freight and passenger transportation are 20.15 million tons and 8.45 million trips, respectively. Its high-speed passenger ferries regularly serve Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
Land Transport

Beijing-Zhuhai Express Way has been operating since December 1999. High-grade highways inside the city are connected with the national highway network. Air Transportation Zhuhai Airport covers 4 million square meters with 81 weekly flights to 32 domestic destinations.
Water and Power Supply
Zhuhai is rich in water and power resources. The power capacity is 650,000 KV The daily water capacity is 500,000 ton Zhuhai Water Station with the daily capacity of 150 ton and Zhuhai Power Plant with the capacity of 3.72 million KV are in phased operation to meet the need in both living and production
